What the studio at skyink.co keeps about you, for how long, and how to be rid of it. Last updated 15 October 2026.
What we keep
- Your account, if you sign in: your email address and, from Apple or Google, the name, picture, account id and the other verified sign-in details they send. Kept for as long as the account is. No password, no phone number, no address. We write to you only when you ask for a sign-in link.
- Your routes, looks and films. The stops you pick, the look, timing and format you chose, and a record of each film. The video file is deleted about a week after the render; the record stays in your Library until you delete your account.
- Sign-in requests. The address, IP address and browser of each request, for a day, to stop abuse. A signed-in session keeps the browser's name for thirty days from your last visit, and goes the moment you sign out.
- The waitlist, if you joined it before it closed on 28 September 2026: your address, IP address and browser. A confirmed address gets one mail and is kept only to honour the founding hundred's promise. The leave link in any of our mail deletes it.
- Counts of what the service did — a film rendered, a look saved, a sign-in — with the route's codes and no email address, so we can see that it works. Deleting your account cuts them loose from you.
In your browser
Your look, timing and format, and which panel you left open, in the site's own storage on your device. One cookie while you are signed in — a random session token, thirty days — and a ten-minute one while an Apple or Google sign-in is in flight. With usage stats on, Google Analytics keeps two cookies of its own, _ga and _ga_RNB92V6J2C, for up to two years. Signed out with usage stats off, no cookie at all.
Usage stats
To see how the site is used — which pages are read, where visitors arrive from, how long they stay — skyink.co uses Google Analytics. When it is on, your browser tells Google the page, the page you came from, your browser, device, screen size and language, and Google sees your IP address, from which it estimates a city and a country; Google Analytics does not keep the address itself. It never sees your routes, your films or your account. We have turned off its advertising features, Google signals and data sharing with Google.
It is on from your first visit. Turn it off here, for this browser; the choice is kept in the site's storage, so clearing the site's data turns it back on. What Google does with it is covered by Google's privacy policy.
Turning usage stats off needs JavaScript; with JavaScript off, Google's tag never loads.
What we never do
No advertising, no sale or sharing of personal data, and no tracking beyond the usage stats above. Apart from Google's analytics tag, the pages load no third-party script, pixel or font: everything else comes from our own servers.
Who else touches it
- Our hosting provider, in the Netherlands, runs the service and its database.
- Our mail provider delivers the sign-in mail, and so sees the address and the message.
- Apple and Google, only if you sign in with them: they send us your email address and the profile details above. Apple's token is kept so that deleting your account can revoke the grant with Apple.
- Google, while usage stats are on: see "Usage stats" above.
- NASA provides the satellite imagery. Our server fetches it, so NASA sees us and not you.
Sharing a film
A film you render gets an unguessable link. Anyone with the link can play the film until the file is deleted, about a week after the render.
Your choices
Account → Delete account removes the account and everything it owns: films and their files, routes, looks, favourite stops, sessions and the link to Apple or Google. Only the anonymous counts remain. Sign out ends one session. Clearing the site's data in your browser removes what is on your device.
